We’re partnering with Kids Against Hunger to offer meals to a staggering number of children… meals that are specially formulated to provide 75% of a child’s daily, healthy diet requirement. Read on to learn more about how you can help.

 

 

In one day, we are trying to pack over 285,000 meals. That’s staggering number, but we’ve done it before. Please join us on March 17, at First Christian Church, in support of this important opportunity to help.

Facts and Stats

• Approximately 70% of Haiti’s population is undernourished to some degree with infants and children suffering the most.
• An estimated 44 children die hourly in Haiti. Children make “Mud pies” which are made out of dirt and oil baked in the sun to avoid starvation.
• Between 2.5 and 3.2 million of Haiti’s people (one third of the population) are affected by chronic hunger. One out of every four children is malnourished (rises to 40% in the poorest areas).
• The “Kids Food” is a specially formulated, fast-cooking rice-based combination of vitamins, soy, dehydrated vegetables and other nutrients that provide in one serving about 75% of a child’s daily requirement for a healthy diet.
• Approximately 500 meals can be bagged in 2 hours per participant.
• Once bagged and boxed, the food is shipped to Haiti in 40-foot containers (semi-trailers). Once a container docks in Haiti, Lifeline staff take over and perform the necessary processes to have the containers cleared by Haitian customs. Lifeline is a recognized mission organization in Haiti.
• The total cost for a container of meals is approximately $45,000.

How You Can Help

• Participants must donate or raise $10 for each two hour bagging session they work. Minimum age to participate is 7 years old.
• Participants will spend a two hour shift measuring, bagging, weighing, sealing, boxing, and stacking the boxes onto pallets and then onto the semi-trailer.
• Plan on spending two and a half hours total at First Christian to allow for prayer, instructions, light refreshments, and of course work.
